Presentations
The academic preparation, research on communication between people of different cultures and languages, as well as the extensive experience of Margarita Caropresi (Atoctli director and founder) in various areas of temporary workers immigration in Canada has allowed her to identify communicative voids that cause problems in safety and compliance on the part of migrant workers within and outside the workplace, affecting relations between migrant workers, their production, training, safety, general wellbeing, etc
These are some of the presentations we have developed to help meet the mentioned needs:
- Impact of communication on migrant farm workers’ safety. Strategies to improve communication. (Results of a research conducted by Margarita Caropresi for Atoctli.)
- Intercultural differences that prevent communication between Canadians and migrant workers. Strategies allowing improvement of training, work and safety within and outside the farm, rules compliance, personal relations, etc.
- Violence, threat and harassment prevention in the workplace -OHSA (Mandatory training in Ontario, and highly recommended in all the provinces, as it helps to identify, prevent and solve problems among migrant workers.) Includes Needs Analysis, report of current situation, alternatives, Procedures manual and presentation in Spanish to migrant workers. Evaluation and recommendations.
- Civic values and general characteristics of rural communities in Canada. Part of migrant workers’ training, in order to achieve a more harmonious and respectful coexistence in the community in which they live.
- We develop presentations on specific topics of your interest, provided that they benefit communication, work, safety, and welfare of migrant workers in Canada.

What our customers say about our services
Intercultural presentations
This is what some of our Intercultural presentations say about our talks
- I was positively impressed by the presenter
- Margarita has great sense of humour and very engaging and knowledgeable speaker.
- I liked that Margarita was candid and gave relevant info to use in practical application
- I liked the level of competence and ability of Margarita to present info in an informative/fun way.
- I liked the openness and approachability of the trainer
- I was very impressed with the instructor Ms Caropresi. She was very dynamic and enthusiastic but also very professional. Her presentation was very informative and also interesting. She was able to keep a good mix of own examples to explain situations or points in her presentation
- Ms Caropresi is a very knowledgeable and interesting presenter who quickly connected to the audience. Provided good handouts. 3 hrs of straight talking but she held the audiences’ attention for the most part. By the end it almost seemed like Canadians were expected to be culturally sensitive to LA immigrants, but there was little mention that immigrants also need to be aware of the Canadian culture.
- Margarita was very inviting to questions about the information that she was presenting. She made it fun and made me able to understand the culture
- I felt the presentation should have been longer. The group was invited to discuss personal experiences, but there was not enough time for everyone to have a say. I also wish we had known it was going to include migrant workers because I did not feel we had enough time to ask questions. I did not learn enough about that the SAWP and the LSWP as I would like to.
- The content was very good. I enjoyed that there were summary “tips” in each section that suggested a specific way of changing how we work with Latin American people.
- The presentation was really good
- The trainer, Margarita, had a wealth of knowledge and experience. She was a good communicator. She had a sense of humour and a passion for the subject matter.
Violence and harassment prevention presentation (Bill 168 in Ontario
- It Is good to know there are ways to file complaints
- Now I feel safer
- It’s very good the farmer brought you to give us this talk, I think he cares
- I didn’t know there was a procedure and people to help me in case of danger or violence
- The explanation was very clear, and you made us feel we can trust in case of filing a complain
- I liked it, thanks
- As always, very good job Margarita, thanks a lot
- It’s great to have your support Margarita, workers paid much attention and asked many questions. Very good, thanks
Translation
I have worked with Margarita in a number of translation assignments. Her deep knowledge of cultural and contextual factors greatly enhances the quality of her work; she has an uncanny ability to always find “le mot juste”. Margarita’s translation and editing skills are second to none.

Spanish as a second language lessons
What students of Spanish as a second language say about our classes:
Armand
Certainly I will write something about Margarita Caropresi’s way of teaching. Above all, what I liked the most of her way of teaching was that she adapts to the student!
I wanted to keep on studying, even after work. I was inspired to do my homework because she did hers, so I could advance my level. There was always a teacher student relation of respect at the study level, which I liked very much.
Of her teaching tools, her verb cards were visual and worked for me fine. I still have them with me and even use them as a guide to teach mi Catalan wife French. Analyses of newspapers on current topics of my taste were perfect. Listening to the radio or watching movies served me to understand the culture, more than for learning a language. This was perfect.
It’s been more than 4 years since we finished the course; I have been in Barcelona 3 years and my moving here was easier thanks to Margarita’s course, although people at first laughed at the Frenchman who spoke Spanish with a weird Mexican-American accent

Last year after a bad experience with Spanish classes at the University of Toronto, I was ready to quit Spanish. However, fortunately I was put in touch with Margarita Caropresi through the Department of Spanish of U of T.
From the start, her enthusiasm and passion restored my interested in learning Spanish.
Her attention to details, a great understanding of the needs of her students and her ability to adapt her methods to suit each student, makes her uniquely qualified to teach.
Not only she has inspired me to continue working hard to obtain a degree in Spanish and learn about the culture and the people, in knowing her I have gained a good friend as well.

Margarita is a fantastic Spanish teacher. She encourages you to not give up and never makes you feel embarrassed for stumbling over grammar. She really makes learning Spanish enjoyable. ¡Gracias Margarita, por toda tu ayuda!

Margarita was my private tutor for four years in high school. She is a very passionate and experienced professional who genuinely takes pleasure in her student’s learning. She was very thorough with my grammar with her effective step-by-step teaching methods and made sure that I learned from my mistakes. She also fueled my passion in Spanish by sharing her Mexican culture and even recommending an extensive summer program in Cuernavaca, Mexico. Thanks to her, I improved greatly in Spanish conversationally and got through the International Baccalaureate (http://www.ibo.org/) Spanish course with a fantastic mark. I even received the Spanish award for my graduating class!
As a person, Margarita is pleasant and humorous, making her classes something to look forward to. I would most definitely recommend using her services whether the needs are casual, educational or professional.

“Margarita has been teaching my two kids, ages 9 and 11, for 1 year now and the experience has been excellent. Margarita is full of energy and prepares an active and customized program for my kids, which has proven to be very effective. My kids love her and are getting very good at Spanish”

Margarita is one of the most effective teachers I have ever had the privilege of working with. One of her greatest strengths is her ability to personalize her style to her student, whether through reading, listening or writing. All styles are incorporated in her teachings but she emphasizes use of the style you learn from best. She is very patient and somewhat relentless! She doesn’t give up until you get it!!

I was Margarita’s student for about 2 months before my backpacking trip to South America. Unlike other classes, Margarita tailored the content specifically for me such that I could maximize the vocabulary and phrases for traveling. What I learned from her has proven to be extremely helpful during my trip! Thank you, Margarita!
I’d highly recommend Margarita for Spanish teaching or tutoring.

Margarita is an amazingly energetic, personable and professional educator. I had the pleasure of being her student for Spanish for over two years. Her teaching style is both structured and entertaining, which makes learning very enjoyable. She works with her students to develop lessons that are of interest to them and that address their specific learning goals. Most importantly, she understands her students’ capabilities and knows when to push and challenge them and when to support them. I highly recommend Margarita.

Margarita Caropresi was my Spanish teacher in 2011. As a former student of languages, I found her to be incredibly well-educated and knowledgeable about Spanish and its grammatical complexities. She kept the language instruction very current and interesting and used many kinds of exercises and media. She is very organized, pleasant and flexible. Margarita helped me understand the rudimentary basics of Spanish in a short time. I would recommend her services without hesitation.
Muchas Gracias- Christina

I studied Spanish with Margarita for about two and a half months, twice a week. First of all I must say that from the very beginning there was structure in learning a new language and Margarita made it so I actually understood not only the meaning of words, but the reason and their place within the Spanish language. I realized very quickly that learning a language is extremely hard work, but by the end of only two months, I was already able to have a little conversation beyond “where is the bathroom”, or, “how much does it cost?”
I recommend Margarita very highly as a Spanish teacher, and though I stopped my Spanish classes for a while, I fully intend to resume them again in the future and I will obviously seek out Margarita.
