What do the workers do for you? You know, I just want to tell the Mexican and Canadian governments that the Seasonal Agricultural Workers Program has saved my farm, because of the muchachos (Mexican migrant workers). They are very good workers, they have made it possible for me to continue in this business.
I treat every one of them like they’re my brothers – that’s how much respect we have for each other. And I want to thank the Mexican government, the Mexican consulate and the Canadian government for allowing us to bring these workers here. They absolutely have excellent work ethics. And I very much appreciate that.
I would do anything for them. I hope they continue coming back. I hope their families in Mexico are in good health, because I know it’s hard for them to come here for four/five months and leave their families back in Mexico – leave their little kids, leave their wives. It must be hard. I don’t know if I could do it.
I know they do it, I understand it. And I really appreciate their coming here to work for me. I will do anything to help them, and help them make a good living so that their families can have a decent living in Mexico.
I want to thank the Mexican and Canadian governments and I want to thank the muchachos here for working for me. It’s something sent by God.
So can you find other people to work on your farm?
No. No, not workers from Canada. No. —I tried— We tried to hire people locally. We put the advertisements in the paper and on the Internet. And there’s some people. Very few.
Some people sent a resume in. They came —But when I told them the job starts in June, they said, “No. I want to start working now, in February,” when we are applying. I say, “No. The job starts in June.”
“In June,” I tell them. “Please call me in June, and I will put you to work with the muchachos here.” You don’t hear from them. They don’t call back. They don’t come. They’re gone. Yeah. So, no. This is the way to go. And I’m very lucky to have these muchachos here.
So I just want you to know that these migrant workers here – for me – are a godsend. OK? Yeah.
Thank you, sir.
